As mentioned above, 21 March 2011 saw the introduction of the new award winning Mercedes Benz Citaro (production model) on the road. It was introduced on service 75, RWS8 (Staff) and a few premium services. There are currently 10 units with SMRT Buses; 300 more Citaros are stated to be bought in by SBS Transit (not yet arrived).

On 22nd March, a few Citaros also plied on routes 167 and 853 and are expected to have their deployments firmed up soon.

Though mostly similar to the demonstrator SMB136C, there are a few notable differences in the production Citaros :
  • A grey with blue/purple interior instead of a grey with red colour scheme in SMB136C. It uses PVC seat covers instead of fabric seats. The Mercedes Benz seats are used, instead of the standard Vogelsitze seats used by majority of SMRT Buses' fleet.
  • A fire extinguisher is now installed at the front (interior) of the bus.
  • Inclusion of Passenger Information System/Bus Stopping sign integrated with the interior.
  • Plug doors
  • New bus stopping buttons.
  • A white aircon pod instead of a grey aircon pod
  • A different Electronic destination signage (believed to be supplied by LAWO), instead of Gorba. The side signage is longer and contains route number and details, instead of just the route number.
  • Additional side blinker on the right side of the bus, just after the rear wheel to alert drivers to give way

SMB136C had also finished its one year trial with SMRT Buses. No further information is available for the future of the bus as of today.
