The SMRT Buses Yutong ZK6126HGC
is Singapore's first China-made public bus. It was first spotted by a Chinese
bus enthusiast in late January 2009 and the information, along with a photo
of it's rear, was subsequently posted onto a chinese bus forum site. In
mid-May, the bus was seen carrying out test drives at Nanyang Technological
University (NTU).
Three months later, on Wednesday, 18 August
2009, the bus was registered as SMB 0135E. The bus was then first deployed
to operate on Service 854 two days later, on 20 August 2009, plying between
Bedok and Yishun via New Upper Changi Road, Eunos/Ubi, Hougang, Yio Chu
Kang and Lentor.
The bus is believed to be fitted with a ZF
gearbox as well as a Cummins engine. A notable feature of this bus is it's
rear electronic destination screen, where for the first time it shows not
only the route number but also the route details.
