Following the recent release of the resin KMB Metrobus M81, I am grateful to Donald MacRae for sending me photographs of sister vehicle M88 operating on the same route, with blank destination and route number with the destination board in the front windscreen. These have now been added to the model page (M8199).
14th February 2012

A recent addition to my collection is this diecast Kowloon Motor Bus MCW 'Super' Metrobus, fleet no. 3M1, which appears to use the ABC casting and features steerable front wheels. Tampo printing is used with the exception of the KMB logos, which are waterslide transfers. The model appears to match that proposed by Cars Workshop, but never released - follow this link for more details of that model.

Singapore Changi Airport's free Budget Terminal Shuttle, operated by Woodlands Transport between Terminal 2 and Budget Terminal has acquired Scania K-series buses to replace their older Isuzu step coaches previously used. The KUBs are bodied by Gemilang, similar to the ones used by SBS Transit for their Euro V K230UBs but with minor variations. The electronic destination signage is supplied by Mobitec and the air conditioning is supplied by Denso. 2 KUBs entered service on 1st Feb 2012 while the third unit entered service on 5th Feb 2012, they are registered as private/excursion buses and given a bright orange livery.

The interior of the KUB has been configured for airport use, with the front half of the bus for standing passengers/luggage only. The front wheelarch seats normally for seating passengers configured to luggage racks, and an additional luggage rack installed behind the left wheelarch, the standee area/wheelchair space fitted with upholstery cushions for standing passengers. The standard manual wheelchair ramp is also fitted. The rear half is for seating passengers.

There are currently 3 units operating this shuttle and it is unknown if Woodlands Transport will acquire more low entry KUBs for their fleet.

At present it is unknown as to whether these are Scania K230UBs  or K270UBs.

My special thanks to
Mark Chua Yong Xiang for not only providing the photographs but also the excellent report.

Each model comes with a decal sheet with KMB logos, route display blinds, registration plates and fleet numbers as well as a limited edition certificate. The model is to be issued shortly and will retail for HK$420.

Alexander Dennis Ltd has announced export orders from Hong Kong for 253 double-deck buses.

It is believed that NWS Holdings is to receive 173 Enviro500s and 30 Enviro400s, to be delivered in the final quarter of 2013 and first quarter of 2014, whilst Kowloon Motor Bus has ordered 50 Enviro400s, due to be delivered in the final quarter of this year.

I understand, but it is not confirmed, that the bulk of the NWS Enviro500s are for Cityflyer services.
