The model - no formal announcement was made for this model, or the Citybus example (80898). Both were released in Hong Kong on 5th February 2010 and again both carry the same 'Year of the Tiger' livery. This is the second model to feature NWFB's first Enviro500, the first being released in September 2008 which carried a special livery to mark the 10th anniversary of NWFB (80891).

The bus - 5501 was the first of a batch of 18 Alexander Dennis Enviro500s to be registered (14th February 2008), despite numerically being the second in the batch (5500 was registered on 6th March 2008). They were ordered in early 2007 and entered service between February 2008 and June 2008. The bodies were shipped to Hong Kong in kit form and assembled by NWFB/Citybus.
