The model - This model was released in August 1998, at the the time KMB celebrated its 65th Anniversary. It was the first release of Corgi's new Trident/ALX500 casting, which was in fact restricted to just two releases, this and the Citybus version (44302). With the Hong Kong Transport Department's ruling that the centre doors should be moved further back, subsequent releases of this model are based on this revised casting. The model is accurate in that it represents a 12-metre vehicle.

The bus - ATR1 was the prototype low floor double deck bus for KMB and it entered service in September 1997. It was the first bus to carry the new champagne livery, which denoted it being a low floor bus. When new, it carried decals on its lower deck sides which included a childs buggy and wheelchair, emphasising its low, non-stepped floor. It also carried a red pinstripe between decks.
