The model -
this and sister model AS1006 were released exactly three years after the
last release of an AsianBus packaged model.
Although the model
represents a low-height version of the S class, which has previously been
modelled by AsianBus, it is assumed that the casting used is that of the
S class. One noteable variation on this model is the re-positioning of
the front headlights, owing to transport legislation introduced in the
late 1980s.
The bus
- LS56 was the last of a batch of 56 low height Guy Arab Mk Vs known as
the 'LS' class. This batch was introduced between 1973-76. They formerly
carried single deck bodies. LS56 actually entered service with it's new
body on 16th September 1976 (30 years less one day before this model was
issued!) These buses, which were 5 inches lower than the 'S' class, were
used on route 15 to The Peak, where their low-height meant they were able
to traverse under Mount Kellet Road bridge.
The above information is just a brief extract
from Mike Davis's excellent book "Hong
Kong Buses - China Motor Bus - 65 years",
in which a photograph of the actual bus
appears.
