The model
- this model is limited to 30 pieces only and was the prize for those
who
sent off their coupon which was included in the Buses Model Co '60th
Anniversary'
China Motor Bus Leyland Olympian (L40806), which was issued in August
2005.
The lucky winners of this model were announced on this site on 24th
December 2005. Further photographs of the model, courtesy of DKWC, were added in early May 2021.
The bus-
S3BL428
is one of the last batch of 50 (S3BL421-470)
11-metre Leyland Olympian non air-conditioned buses to join KMB's fleet
during 1993 and 1994. They were nicknamed "Tiger-heads" and were
originally
ordered by KMB as air-con buses, however, as the acceptance level
towards
air-con "premium" bus services from the general public was still
relatively
low during the early 1990s, the Transport Department asked KMB to
convert
the order of these 50 buses (together with another 50 11-metre Dennis
Dragons,
which have become S3N271-319 and 370) to non air-con buses. By June
2002,
most of these buses were allocated on routes 60X, 62X, 81 and 81C.
Being a
scheduled bus for route 60X when
it was brand new, by late 2005 S3BL428 was based in Tai Po and is
believed
to be a scheduled bus for route 73.
I am very
grateful to Dennis Law for the
above information.
