The model
- this is one model from a two-model set entitled 'East meets West',
first announced on this site towards the end of November 1999 and
released on 16th December. The second model features a Plaxton Pointer
bodied Dennis Dart SLF single-deck bus in Stagecoach livery operating
for Cambus.
The bus
- Citybus started operating buses in 1979,
using one double deck bus on a shuttle service for the employees of a
Hong
Kong dockyard. Over the past two decades, the Company's buses have
become
a highly popular means for people to commute comfortably and
conveniently
between their homes, offices and Hong Kong's major travel interchanges.
The Citybus network of routes now stretches from the south side of Hong
Kong Island to Beijing, carrying over 580,000 passengers per day.
Stagecoach
started operations in 1980, when
it started it's first express coach service in the United Kingdom. A
reputation
was soon earned for providing new quality coaches for operation on
their
expanding network of express coach services. Major expansion in the UK
came with the purchase of several bus companies that had been
privatised
in the late 80's and early 90's. With opportunities for major expansion
in the UK limited, Stagecoach looked overseas for further growth and is
now involved in bus and coach operations in Australia, China, Finland,
Hong Kong, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal and the USA. Other activities
within
the Stagecoach group include train operations, train leasing and
airport
management.
The purchase of Citybus
by Stagecoach Holdings
PLC in 1999 saw the combining of two of the world's most dynamic bus
operators.
This set of two models has been produced to commemorate this occasion.
