 Prototype buses - Dennis Trident

My thanks to Alistair Liddle for sending me these photographs of 'The Sun' bus at Blackpool.

This is believed to be the first Dennis Trident off the production line. Whilst carrying the new Alexander ALX500 body, it was fitted with an 'R' type front as it is believed the front of the ALX500 had still to be finalised. It was registered M539 URX and taken to Dennis with no interior to be used as a test bed. It is believed that it remained in an unpainted state and was tested to virtual destruction on the various test tracks. A news item in a trade magazine at the time gave details. The bus re-emerged a year or so ago with the 'Sun' and it is thought the chassis was in such a bad state that there was no way it would get a PCV test. Some further images of the bus can be found on several Fotopic sites

My thanks to David Kat and Andrew Shirley for the above information.

If you are able to provide any additional information, please e-mail me
