The model -
this model was one of two issued on 20th June 2015, both of which
feature Daimler E type AD7286 in a 'Clean Hong Kong' all-over livery. This version is on route 3C to Tsz Wan Shan whilst the second (38405) is on route route 102 to Lai Chi
Kok.
The bus
- AD7286 was one of the 200 Daimler CVG6LX-34 buses purchased by KMB between
1969 and 1972, being classified by KMB as their 'Daimler E' class. The following is an extract from the Hong Kong Heritage Project Blog :-
"We
started with a clean Hong Kong campaign (under Sir Murray MacLehose)
and that was one of the first things I had to do when I ceased being
just another writer of feature articles, I was put into the publicity
unit as Chief Information Officer in charge of publicity and we ran the
Clean Hong Kong Campaign with Lap Sap Chung as our mascot. Lap Sap
Chung was a sort of quasi dragon like feature that was designed by a
colleague Arthur Hacker who was in charge of our art department. He
wanted to design something repulsive that the public would hate because
Lap Sap Chung is an antisocial person who litters you see and this was
the, the thing that we all had to get rid of … this habit of littering
so we had to get the Lap Sap Chung out of our lives and I think Arthur
based him on a sort of gremlin like cartoon character from World War II
and gave him a green skin and orange spots and we had life size Lap Sap
Chung’s some of them containing people suited up as Lap Sap Chung
making their appearances in public and being soundly kicked and
thrashed by members of the public who wanted him out of their lives."
