The model - details of this model were announced by Masterpiece Collectibles on 26th October 2020.  The company advised me the same day that no final decision has been as to what vehicle is to be modelled.  It was expected to be released in January 2021.

On 12th July 2021, three versions of this model were released in Singapore. These feature SBS4903U on route 16, SBS4774A on route 192 and SBS4833M on route 273.

The bus - An interesting article concerning this bus type was published in the Business Times and is dated 28th November 1980. It reads:-

SBS takes delivery of prototype

SINGAPORE Bus Service recently took delivery of its first completely-assembled bus from New Zealand Motor Bodies. The company is providing body kits for 200 SBS buses which are to be fitted with Volvo chassis.

Except for the prototype, the other 99 buses will be assembled in Singapore. An SBS Spokesman said the prototype had to be completely assembled by New Zealand Motor Bodies so that the latter can ensure that body kits supplied will complement the specifications for the Volvo chassis.

The contract secured by New Zealand Motor Bodies is valued at $10 million and shipment will be in completely-knocked-down kits at a rate of 20 a month.

So far, New Zealand Motor Bodies has completed the bodies of 60 buses and towards the end of next month, the company is expected to complete 120 buses for shipment.

Assembly of the single-deckers will be carried out at the SBS workshops in Mackenzie Road. SBS has a staff of more than 50 production workers at the workshop.

An average of 10-15 new buses will be put on the road each month so that the whole fleet of buses with Volvo chassis should be in operation in about a year.

SBS has received 30 chassis from Volvo and the remainder will be supplied in batches over the next 12 months.
