The model
- this is one of two versions of the very first Wrights bodied Volvo
B10TL for Kowloon Motor Bus, AVW1. This version represents the bus in
service whilst the second features the bus as
it was photographed arriving off the ship in Hong Kong - with a
registration of WRIGHTBUS and a destination screen
displaying route 264M - Tin Shui Wai Town Centre (KMB2023010).
The bus - AVW1 was the first of an order for
fifty Wrights Explorer bodied Volvo B10TL (Super Olympian). It was
first registered on
20th March 2003 and it was retired on
8th March 2021. Fortunately, it has since been acquired for
preservation.
In January
2004, a repeat order, worth £6million was placed, with Ian Pearson MP,
the Minister with responsibility for Enterprise, Trade and Investment,
saying "This repeat order from KMB, the world’s biggest bus company, is
a marvellous endorsement of Wrightbus as a designer and manufacturer of
a range of superb vehicles which incorporate advanced technology for
both drivers and passengers. Repeat business placed so quickly after
just a few weeks of the first introduction of the vehicles by KMB on
some of Hong Kong’s busiest routes is a measure of the quality of the
buses and of this Northern Ireland company’s highly responsive customer
services."
