The 'Rickshaw Sightseeing Bus' - 2015 |
|
Details of the
Rickshaw Bus, when launched back in 2009, can be found by following
this link. In December 2014, the service was restructured with Route H2 being cancelled and route H1 extended to Kowloon side. The price for a one-day pass increased from HK$50 to HK$200. In April 2015, with the five Volvo Olympians (VA51-55) nearing the end of their franchised service life, New World First Bus removed five Euro 3 emission 12-metre Dennis Tridents with Alexander ALX500 bodywork from service and began their conversion to open-top, retaining an upper front cabin. 1215 was the first with 1216-19 expected to follow. By early May, the company were having to use standard buses to operate the Rickshaw Bus route, with Volvo Olympian VA51 already having been retired. It is understood that the rear canopies fitted to the Olympians were being removed and re-fitted to the Tridents. On 14th May, 1215, the first to be converted, was noted undergoing testing. A week or so later it was noted in service with 1216, the second conversion, having been completed. 1215 and 1216 were first registered on 16th April 2002. It is understood that the Volvo Olympians may pass to the Citybus fleet. |
