The first of the 10 ex-China Motor Bus LM class tri-axle Olympians has been delivered to Great Yarmouth from Rotherham where they were painted in Barbie 3 livery. The insides have not been refurbished. They were previously at First Glasgow and evidence is still visible in the form of stars on the destination boxes and windscreen stickers.
Ten of these 11 metre non air-conditioned
Olympians entered service in Hong Kong with China Motor Bus in December
1993. They were transferred to New World First Bus on 1st September 1998.
With the new owners promise of providing air-conditioning on all its vehicles
by the end of 1999, the entire class was withdrawn in early 2000 and shipped
back to the UK later that same year. Prior to leaving Hong Kong, the buses
were fitted with interior heaters and replacement windows and the centre
doorway was removed. They were refurbished inside and repainted into First
PMT's red and yellow livery. Subsequently they were tranferred to
the First Manchester fleet, where they received the standard First livery.
Video footage of these vehicles is included in the independent
transport video China Motor Bus Retrospective, details of which can
be found by following the link. These buses were then transferred to First
Glasgow.
