Bus fans in Singapore received a surprise Christmas present today with the introduction of the SMRT Buses MAN NL320F demonstrator. It was registered SMB 0138Y on 17th December 2010 and entered service today, operating Service 961, which plies between Woodlands and Geylang Lorong 1.

Some of the bus specifications are:

Bodywork: MCV Evolution
Engine Model: MAN D2066 Engine (Either Euro IV or V)
Engine Capacity: 10,518cc

The bus also bears some special features. Apart from being an entirely low floor bus, it is the first public citybus in Singapore to use outward sliding exit doors (similar to KMB examples). The company is also offering free WIFI access on board the bus.

My thanks to the JRTeam for their efforts in sending me a copy of their Hong Kong Transport Yearbook 2009, which has just arrived - an earlier attempt having gone astray. I will shortly prepare a review which will be published in due course - a quick glance through tonight has taken rather longer than anticipated, which is always a good sign!!

As a navigational aid in the Click here to visit the Xtra pages section of the site, the following 'fastrack' bar has been added to some recently updated pages, thus enabling quicker access within the section. Any comments (good or bad) or suggestions would be welcome.

After careful consideration, I have decided to close the 'Oriental Model Buses Yahoo Group' with effect from midnight on the 31st December. In doing so I would like to offer my sincere thanks to moderators Donald MacRae and Andrew Shirley, not only for their help and support over the nine years or so, but also for their support of this site. Thanks also to all those of you who have contributed during this time. For those who aren't already members, there is of course DBi (Diecast Buses interactive), where there are always discussions on a wide range of topics.

Having returned to the UK yesterday, I am still getting used to the change in temperature - last week I was sat in shorts and a T-shirt overlooking Discovery Bay in glorious sunshine and a pleasant 26°C!

First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you that I met during my stay and for the hospitality given to me, which is very much appreciated.
