Book - Hong Kong 1984 - Book 2 Kowloon Motor Bus

This book was published in February 2022 and is the second in a series of three books featuring the photographs of Roger Bailey taken during his visit to the former colony in late October/early November 1984. The book is A5 in size and has 66 pages. It includes over one-hundred colour photographs and eleven black and white.

Roger's first book, published in August 2021, features his photographs of the China Motor Bus fleet taken during the same visit (click here to see details) and a third book is well underway, this covering the other operators plus Lantau and Macau.

The introduction page describes Roger's 'Trip of a Lifetime' and also gives a brief history of the Kowloon Motor Bus Company. The majority of pages feature two photographs with a brief description. The photographs are grouped by bus types, including the AEC Regent V, Albion Victor and Viking, Daimler CVG6LX, Daimler and Leyland Fleetline, Leyland Victory Mk2 and Dennis Jubilant, ex London Transport 'DMS' Fleetline, Leyland Olympian, Dennis Dominator, Dennis Dragon, Volvo B10MD and Mercedes-Benz O305 ME1. Sixteen pages at the back of the book feature a visit to Tuen Mun Depot and include photographs taken inside the workshops along with some support vehicles and various Kowloon Motor Bus literature from the period.

Summary - another excellent book with a good selection of high quality photographs that capture, in my opinion, one of the more interesting periods of the Kowloon Motor Bus. AEC Regents, BACo bodied Fleetlines, Daimlers, Jubilants, Victorys, the unique Volvo B10MD and the arrival of the three axle super-buses. There are several photographs of the newly and unregistered Alexander bodied Leyland Olympians 3BL42-61 taken at Tuen Mun Depot.

In my opinion, well worth the £12.00 cost and a welcome addition to my library of Hong Kong bus books.

Now looking forward to Roger's third book, which is expected later this year and will feature the buses of Argos, Citybus, Lantau, Macau, two Routemasters and some trams.
