The latest edition of 'KMB Today' is now available on-line and confirms the details published yesterday of the Kowloon Motor Bus Leyland Victory. It also confirms the report on Monday that a further non air-conditioned Leyland Olympian is to be released, on route 66 to Tai Hing. It is limited to 1,800 pieces.

Tomorrow I am off to Hong Kong for almost two weeks and consequently there will be no updates during this period. Do please, however, continue to e-mail any news items, ready for my return.

My thanks to Wei Shen for providing the following news from Singapore.

SMRT Buses has ordered 66 units of the Mercedes Benz O530 Citaro. The first fully built unit has arrived and was first spotted parked inside Cycle and Carriage on 3 November fully painted in SMRT's red and white livery but without logos. With its introduction, this bus will be Singapore's first fully low floor bus.

The bus will seat 29 passengers with 2 'granny' seats as well as a single Passenger in Wheelchair (PIW) bay. A foldable chair has been provided at the PIW bay. Both the entrance as well as the exit doors will be leaf doors.

The following is the extract from Daimler's Press Release .

BlueTec in Asia

Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) is the first company in Southeast Asia to put Mercedes-Benz urban buses with BlueTec 5 into operation in short-distance public transport. This means that the BlueTec diesel technology so successfully introduced by Daimler in Europe now also has a presence in Asia. And with an order for 66 Mercedes-Benz Citaro BlueTec urban buses that meet the stringent Euro 5 exhaust standard, the SMRT Corporation in Singapore is setting new benchmarks in Southeast Asia.
