Whilst on the subject of the Dennis Condors of New World First Bus, today marks the 17th anniversary of the final day of China Motor Bus franchised operations and pictured above is DA92 at Fortress Hill on 29th August 1998.
31st August 2015

Whilst mention was made yesterday of the imminent demise of KMB's 3AV class, just as important is the end of New World's DA class. These 11-metre Dennis Condors were acquired from China Motor Bus and the last of the batch numerically, DA92, was retired on Friday. DA90, the sole remaining example is officially set to retire next Saturday, 5th September, although I am unsure whether this bus is still in service.

And confirmation from Louis Kung that it is - captured earlier today!!!

In contrast, one of the new MAN A95 of New Lantau Bus was used today for an organised tour and my thanks to Shu Tou for allowing me to share the above photographs.

Six months after KMB's 11-metre Dennis Dragon AD336 received banners marking the end of this class of vehicle, confirmation has been received that no less than three models of the bus are to be released shortly. They are:-

Model No. Route Destination Quantity

KLE15003 92 Sai Kung 1,200
KLE15003A 3C Tsz Wan Shan North
600
KLE15004   603  Ping Tin 1,200

In addition there will be another KMB release, this being Leyland Olympian S3BL236 (DV8569) in pink Captain KMB livery (KLE15018), this being limited to 1,200 pieces.

Buses Model have unveiled their next releases which are two versions of China Motor Bus MCW Metrobus ML1. The first appears to feature the bus as delivered, with the CMB emblem above the front destination screen, a 'white on red' front number plate located on the nearside of the front bumper and in my opinion a 'neat' front grille!. The second appears to feature the bus in later life, with a 'black on white' front number plate located beneath the drivers windscreen, the asymmetrical front grille, no CMB emblem above the front destination and differing driving mirrors. No other details are currently known but I hope Buses Model will allow me to publish one of their photographs.

Another complete KMB class will be retired in September. 12-metre Volvo Olympian 3AV338 is the last of the type and will be retired on 15th September - it is pictured above earlier today operating on route 281M.

My thanks to Clough Wang for informing me that he today purchased these two Bristol Lodekka LD in the livery of the now defunct Macau operator, Fok Lei. Produced by AsianBus, that on the right is  MB-01 on route 11 from Macau to Taipa whilst the second, on the left, is MB-02.

In addition two China Motor Bus Guy Arab based water bowsers are set for release shortly, one in red and cream livery (CB-01) and the other in blue and cream livery (CB-02).

I do not believe these four models have limited edition certificates and I can confirm quantities will be available in the UK.

I was pleasantly surprised and very grateful to receive the above two books 'The Kowloon Motor Bus Fleet in 80 Years' Volume 1 (1933-1980) and Volume 2 (1981-2013), which are printed and published by OverGround Publishing. Reviews will be published shortly.

The above photographs, taken today, show the final moments in service of the very first Dennis Trident for New World First Bus. It is understood that NWFB will not keep this bus for preservation due to concerns on maintenance costs, which is a real shame.

And thanks to Donald MacRae, here is a shot taken on 5th September 1998, it's fifth day of service.

The 'vintage' livery applied by Citybus to ex-NWFB VA54 (see News 28th June 2015) was shortlived and it now carries all-over advertising for Parker 33, a private development of apartments in Sai Wan Ho.

Could ATR1, KMB's first Dennis Trident, be the subject of a model, having received its red pinstripes some while ago, it now carries a decal that reads "Farewell Hong Kong's first Super-low floor double-decker bus  ATR1  1997-2015"

Singapore celebrated its 50th year of independence today and as previously mentioned both SBS Transit and SMRT Buses have specially decorated some of their buses with advertisements and decals commemorating SG50. SBS 8861E carries the 'Spot Me' decals whilst SBS 5011L bears the NDP (National Day Parade) 2015 advertisement. The 'Spot Me Red Dot' is a campaign by ComfortDelGro as part of SG50 celebrations. This is a reference to 'the Little Red Dot', a term signifying Singapore's place on the world map.

Both operators offered free rides today (National Day) and specially programmed electronic displays on several buses informed commuters about the free rides.

For more information on SG50, please follow link (link no longer available). The press release by SBS Transit and the website by SMRT Buses also contain information about the free rides, as well as other details about SG50 celebrations.
