Citybus has today issued the following press release:-

Citybus is proud to announce the launch into public service of Hong Kong's first hydrogen double deck vehicle on the 25 Feb, opening up a new chapter in the city's advancement towards a hydrogen future. Every citizen can be part of this historic moment and join us on this journey as we embark on the future of zero-emission transportation.

Commencing from Sunday, our customers will be able to have an exclusive opportunity to experience a journey aboard the first hydrogen double deck vehicle running on Route 20, travelling through the vibrant districts of Kowloon City, Yau Tsim Mong and Sham Shui Po while delivering a quiet, comfortable and zero-emission journey. The first departure of the hydrogen bus is scheduled for 11:00 am, departing from Kai Tak (Muk On Street) and transporting our customers to Cheung Sha Wan (Hoi Tat).

Vincent Fung, Operations and Engineering Director of Citybus, expressed immense pride in the whole business for introducing this new zero-emission option to Hong Kong's public transport industry. “Following the launching ceremony of Hong Kong’s first hydrogen refuelling station and hydrogen double deck vehicle last year with the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, our team has maintained rigorous communications with multiple Government departments, spearheaded by the Inter Departmental Working Group and we have worked tirelessly to push forward our testing initiatives, establish safety regulations and provide training of our personnel.“

He added, the hydrogen bus will progressively expand its schedule of service in order to widen the opportunity to see it operating in different areas and enrich our customers’ hydrogen experience. Initially, the hydrogen bus will operate approximately 6-8 trips daily along the ‘Waterloo Road Line’ – running on Route 20 for a one-month period.

Citybus is fully dedicated to supporting Hong Kong’s carbon neutrality target through our zero-emission campaign #MissionZero, pledging to operate a full-fleet of zero-emission buses by 2045. The hydrogen bus offers an all-encompassing zero-emission solution, emitting only water, thereby eliminating exhaust fumes and improving air quality. With a comparable operational range to diesel buses in the production model, hydrogen buses could enable us to achieve a critical “one-for-one replacement” of diesel buses in the future.
