Today saw the end of MTR's Phase 2 Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs), having served the north western New Territories for over 30 years, and a special trip was organised. The Phase 2 LRVs, built by Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries, entered service in 1992, with 20 cab cars numbered 1071-1090 and 10 trailers numbered 1201–1210.

Whilst there has been very little model news to report of late, which is not unusual for the period after the Chinese New Year, my time has been spent correcting the large number of spelling mistakes which were flagged up during site maintenance - some of these errors had been there for over 20 years!!  Work is also continuing on investigating and correcting broken links, both internally and those to external websites.  Painting and decorating has also been high on the agenda over the past few weeks!!

On 7th February more than 3,000 people entered the mainland via the Heung Yuen Wai Port control point, which was in service for travellers for the first time since 2020, while many queued for cross-border buses at the 24-hour Huanggang control point.  The Liantang port has only been serving cargo transport since August 2020, and only opened to travellers on the 7th. There are several  new bus routes connecting the new territories with the new port, namely the B7, B8 and B9.

Citybus operates routes B7 (to Sheung Shui) and B8 (to Sha Tin & Tai Wai) whilst Kowloon Motor Bus operates route B9 (to Tuen Mun).
