Wrightbus enters administration

About 1,200 Wrightbus workers have been made redundant after the company entered administration.
Just 50 jobs will be retained at the firm - the last UK-owned bus manufacturer - administrators said.

The company had suffered cash flow problems and had sought investment or a new owner and talks with two potential buyers of the firm, best known for building the New Routemaster, known as the "Boris Bus", failed to reach a conclusion last week. Deloitte, the firm's administrator, said the lack of a buyer for Wrightbus had caused the redundancies.

The Wright family, who founded Wrightbus in 1946, said "global changes from diesel to electric in bus technology have caused a sharp decline in demand for buses in the UK".
In a statement, the family said that it moved work from its facility in Malaysia to Ballymena in a bid to secure local jobs. "These factors have resulted in significant losses at Wrightbus which our family have been covering for a over a year."

MSD has updated it's Facebook page with a few new photographs, just to whet the appetite of anyone either visiting it's shop in person or looking for something particular on-line. Jacky, the owner, is most helpful in searching out any models you may be missing, as witnessed by several recent recommendations. For more information, just follow this link.

Photograph copyright of The Transport Photo Interchange

A rare early colour photograph (photographer unknown) of Citybus (City Buses as it was then known) D5, recently acquired from the copyright holder, The Transport Photo Interchange.

D5 was one of six former Bournemouth Corporation Weymann bodied Daimler Fleetline CRG6-30 acquired by Citybus in 1979. Originally numbered 192 (CRU 192C) in the Bournemouth fleet, she was new in July 1965, as the extract from my British Bus Fleets 'South Central' book shows.

She was the first of these six buses to be registered in Hong Kong, on 24th August 1979, and was withdrawn in 1986.

EFE produced a model of sister vehicle D4 (CA8427), in the later canary yellow livery back in 1998 (23504).

The release of Model 1's five New World First Bus models (three lowheight Duple Metsec bodied Dennis Tridents and two 11-metre Alexander bodied Volvo Olympians) is imminent with several UK customers being notified that their models are on their way.

The above photograph of China Motor Bus Leyland Victory Mk2 LV59 (CJ9245), recently posted by Bus enthusiast's diary, prompted me re-visit the Collector's Model release of this bus back in 1999 (V104A), and reminded me just how difficult it was to remove the model from it's plinth owing to lots of pieces of twisted wire!!!
