An extract from a social media post by Citybus,

"Citybus's first double-decker hydrogen bus officially launched with its first refueling station! Our car can be launched in a brand new look at "The Future is H2re" from here on! Our goal is to start service in January 2024 and will start using the routes within Kowloon District initially, allowing the public to experience

Citybus' #MissionZero zero-emission transition program is committed to helping Hong Kong move towards carbon neutral and is committed to fully using zero-emission buses by 2045 to achieve true "zero-emission"!"

The bus was registered RP866 yesterday and allocated the fleet number 59200.

My thanks to Andrew Mak and Steven Li for sending me the images posted on the KMB on-line shop yesterday, before they disappeared, having sold out. New pages have now been added and can be found by following these links - newly arrived in Hong Kong example (KMB2023010) and AVW1 in service (KMB2023011).

A new page has also been added to the XTRA section of the site - (I don't think I need to explain its topic!), just click on the above image.

Well, the BYD B12D model appeared on the KMB on-line shop as detailed below, but as far I can see, the two Wrights Explorer bodied Volvo B10TL models have not! The BYD model has a product code of KMB2023012 and a new page has now been added.

Update - I can confirm that the two Wrights Explorer bodied Volvo B10TLs did appear, but sold out within a few hours. I believe both feature the very first of the type for Hong Kong, AVW1. The first represents the bus when it first arrived in Hong Kong, carrying a registration of WRIGHTBUS and with route 264M displayed  (KMB2023010) whilst the second carries the registration KY2604 and is on route 2 to So Uk (KMB2023011). New pages will be added shortly - if anyone 'captured' the images from the KMB on-line shop, I would be most grateful to receive any - just e-mail me.

Having received my copy of the above book, which is published today, I couldn't resist posing Corgi's Kowloon Motor Bus Dennis Dart in front of it, as it shares the same route number and destination as the Dart featured on the cover of the book!

Full details of the book can be found by following this link,  I have also added a brief review. Interest in the book has been huge, with more than 800 likes on this site's Facebook page since posting details last Thursday evening.

In the UK it is available direct from the publishers, Amberley Publishing, Amazon or ebay  For overseas customers it is available from Wordery, who provide free delivery to many countries (but sadly not to Hong Kong) or Amazon.

Following the two recent Citybus additions to my collection, I am always looking to feature pre-production models in the XTRA section of the site along with any models that never made it to production. If you possess such a model, do please get in touch.

Recent additions to my collection are these two Citybus models that date from over twenty years ago.

The first is 10.4 metre Duple Metsec bodied Dennis Dragon 701, which was converted by Citybus to a trolleybus for trials in 2001/2002. The model is based on the Collector's Model casting and was issued as a trolleybus by 80M Bus Model Shop in May 2001 and just 800 were produced (88001).

The second is a pre-production model from Corgi, representing Alexander bodied Leyland Olympian 352 with Network 26 decals. It is one of the two models contained in the  Network 26 set issued by Corgi in December 1999. It does, however, have a few differences from the final production version, a couple of which are shown below.

The production example, to the rear, correctly features a double-door entrance, along with a change in position for the nearside route number box. A new page has just been added to the XTRA section of the site where a few more differences can be spotted! Just follow this link.

In the recent fleet re-numbering exercise carried out by Citybus, it was noted that several batches of vehicles did not receive new fleet numbers. These include Citybus 12-metre Enviro500s (fleet nos. 8100-8127) along with similar New World First Bus examples (fleet nos. 5500-5517). Another batch not to receive new fleet numbers are New World First Bus 11.3 metre examples (fleet nos. 4000-4019). I believe these are all Euro IV buses.

Noted at the weekend, parked in the corner of the Citybus Kowloon City car park, are some of the Citybus examples.

5th November 2023

Today marks the 25th anniversary of this website

Launched on 5th November 1998, its aim was to provide fellow Hong Kong model bus collectors with news and information on the new models being released at that time.
25 years on and the aim remains the same!

The website layout has remained generally unchanged throughout the 25 years, partly because most visitors found it fairly easy to navigate and partly because my web design skills are rather limited!  There have, I hope, been several improvements and useful additions along the way.

My first Hong Kong model was this Kowloon Motor Bus Volvo Olympian from Corgi, which was released in June 1997. It was one of seven Hong Kong models listed in Corgi's July-December 1997 'The Original Omnibus Company' catalogue and the range were featured as a centre page spread under the heading 'The Oriental Omnibus Company'. The model was on sale at a toy fair I attended at Sandown Park, near London, in 1998 with my 13-year-old son. Up to that point, my collection consisted mainly of Corgi 1/64th scale Routemaster models in various liveries. Seeing this Olympian intrigued me, as I had no idea what the Hong Kong bus scene was about. Anyway, my son persuaded me to buy it, so it is all his fault! Trying to find out details of these models proved difficult, so I decided to make use of the free webspace my internet provider was offering and create a website to pass on the information I had researched..... it just happens that I am doing much the same today, albeit nothing is for free any more!

Over these 25 years, I have made many good friends, both here in the UK and also in Hong Kong. I have also visited the former British colony over ten times. May I thank you all for your support, especially the large number of you who have contributed over the years - the site wouldn't be what it is today without you. Special mention to Sindy & Joe of Jotus.com, (Joe designed my 25th anniversary logo), Mr Kwok of 80M Bus Model Shop, Philip Chan, Donald MacRae, Bobby Liu and Network Shuttle, all of whom have willingly provided information and photographs over the bulk of these 25 years. Finally, and most importantly, I would like to thank my family for putting up with my obsession during this time!

Here are a few random facts about the site:-

it consists of over 3,600 pages
it includes over 53,000 images
almost 6 million visits have been recorded
since a 'counter' was added in December 2001
more than 1,650 1/76 scale diecast Hong Kong models are listed
the site's name was changed from
"Unofficial Site for Corgi Oriental Buses" to its current title in June 1999
the XTRA section was added in March 2003 and now contains over 600 pages
the site's URL became
www.orientalmodelbuses.co.uk in October 2006
a record 2,746 visits were recorded on 3rd November 2010

Included below are some 'home page' screenshots over the years.
